This morning we woke up at o'dark thirty to take an early morning safari in hopes of spotting new animals.
Our van pulled out at 6:20 in time to catch the sunrise. Absolutely breathtaking! Just as good as last nights sunset...
First animals spotted- rhinos
Then some more zebras in the morning sunlight
We stopped at the hippo wading area and got out to take a peak
Group shot with our drivers in front of the banyan tree.
We also saw some elephants up close and personal
There was a herd of zebras in the middle of the road drinking water not at all interrupted by a group of tourist!
We returned to Leopard Rock for a nice breakfast.
There were quite a few monkeys nearby to entertain us
A few feet from our cottages along a walking path we saw where elephant and bull remains have been deposited around a tree!
On the way out we saw these impalas.
We stopped by ARI on the way home to pick up our laundry
Chiquita banana girl!
When we got back we tried hiking to a waterfall, which is a must see, each time the Kenyan team comes.
We had to climb through a really steep area that was "claimed" by locals using squatter rights. To get on the land we, as a group, had to pay them a few shillings. We got to the top- hanging by a thread and then locals started harassing us taking pictures on their primitive cell phones and and demanding more money. Talking about turning & high tailing it out of there! We got half way down and they tried to but up a barbed wire thinking we would pay them more money. No worries! Connie and Lynne led the way, sliding underneath the fences while Spencer went into body guard mode. Adrenaline was pumping at an all time high! I got back to the van and Mackenzie pointed out that I had a bleeding scratch on my arm, where I must have scratched it on something coming down the mountain. I didn't even feel it!
Obviously we escaped unscathed... Definitely one for the books!
