Last night I endured a freezing cold shower! Even with the hot water switch
flipped on ... It just wasn't happening. I mumbled a few words and then God reminded me I was lucky to have running water clean enough to bathe in all the time at home.
This morning I woke up to Scott playing Lee Greenwood's "God bless the USA" only fitting as it is July 4th in the states.
Every morning Delinda posts a quote & a scripture... That American flag means a whole more to me this July 4th!
We made a stop by the bank to exchange more money
We headed out in a different direction today. We stayed main roads for a few minutes and then we headed off the beaten path to visit a new school.
These pictures don't do the bumpiness and potholes justice....
Precious children waving at Mzungos!
When we arrived at the school we had an audience waiting on us...
We visited a preschool
Those babies were absolutely precious! This school has three classrooms of 120 students, ages 2 to 5, with 3 teachers &1 assistant.
Where the lunch in prepared. A big pot of vegetables (beans, carrots and potatoes) in stew form.

Ages 2-3 babies
Ages 3-4
I blew some bubbles for them
Ages 4-5
The 4-5 year teacher instructing them in Swaheli
We gave them marshmallows
In this community there is running water through a creek but it is not clean. Efforts are being made to provide a well for fresh water. It will cost $20,000. Half of the money has been raised. The Methodist Men of Mt Olivet Church sent $1,000 check to contribute to this worthy cause.
Pastor Cecil praying over this project and blessing these children
Running back to class
Next we stopped at the hospital
Though top notch by African standards- this hospital would be condemned were it in America.
In a lab were blood, urine and saliva specimens were being tested... Wouldn't be allowed near the door in America.
Hospital chapel
On our return to town I spotted a large gathering near the center of town... It was a demonstration of public school teachers on strike. (Pictures on camera) Misheck informed us that this is the 7th time in a short period of time that teachers have gone on strike. Private schools are still in session.
Delinda read in the paper where Kenyan nurses have also gone on strike, demanding a 43% increase to their pay and 23% increase to their housing allowance. That means thousands of patients in hospitals have been left unattended...
This evening as we sat down at the dinner table we opened with a chorus of "God Bless America". I have never meant those words more than I did tonight.
Being silly with our nighttime napkin designs and wearing them as hats!
