Costa Rica: Day 5

Another great breakfast to start my day!

Today's VBS theme is "God Hears Me" : the story of Jonah. Our Jonah whale made out of a tent!

Jonah came to visit and share his story.

"God hears me" in crayon colored over with water paints.

Sweet Violet!

A whole lot of starches for lunch! Chicken, potatoes, rice and beans!

After another successful day of VBS we headed to a Pani house for girls- what we would consider a Safeway house in the states. This house is a safe place for abused girls (sexually, physically and mentally) to come. If the government gets word of a girl in danger with guns they go into the homes and remove the girls- no questions asked. After the girl is safely removed they return to the home and investigate what type of abuse and why it is occurring. If and when the problem is fixed the girls can be returned to their home. If not they stay in this safe house until they are 18 years of age.

Today our group was asked to paint the kitchen and the bedroom of a "Tia" (aunt) which is what the girls call their caregivers.
