Israel Day 7

The Church of Peter- We began our morning where Jesus instructed Peter to cast his net and he told Peter “Though art Peter and upon this rock I will build my church” This is also where Jesus
fed the 4 thousand with 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish.

Next stop- the Ancient Galilee Boat and Galilean boat ride! We  danced a jewish dance to Hava Nagila in the middle of the boat!

.

Next up- Mountain of the Beatitudes

The Church of the Beatitudes is atop the mountain in the top left of this picture. Jesus spoke on the top of the mountain and fed the crowd  of 5,000 spread out down the slopping hill.

The dome has a blue sun and yellow sky, because when Jesus gave the Beatitudes, He turned man’s way of thinking upside down!

We went back to Capernaum  - the town of Jesus.

This  is where Jesus performed many of his miracles. Capernaum became his home and the Bible calls it Jesus’ “own city”. One of the few sites that are known to be accurate.

Jesus left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum after the temptation in the wilderness. (Matt 4:13) Here he met 5 of His disciples James, John, Peter, Andrew all fishermen and Matthew a tax collector. This is where Jesus called them to be fishers of men.

Capernaum is an archaeological site now and not inhabited in modern times.

Here we sat by the Sea of Galilee where Jesus calmed the storm and also called the 12 disciples to follow after him.

Next to the water is Peter’s house. The ruins of what is believed to be Peter’s house where Jesus healed Peter’s mother in law are still here.  This is where Jesus declared Himself to be the Bread of Life. (John 6:35-59)

The Synagogue was next door. (Luke 4).

Jesus would regularly preach in this Synagogue. He expelled a demon from a possessed man here (Mark 1:21-27) and cured a Roman officer’s servant of palsy, the centurion is thought to have had the synagogue built (Luke 7:3). Here Jesus is also famous for raising the daughter of Jairus from the dead (Luke 8:41-53).

Lunch was at Deck’s on the water! Here we had a family style meal of Peter’s fish and sides.

Dinner with a view!

On to Cana where the first miracle was performed- turning the water into wine. There is a church built over the ruins.
