At the start of a new school year it is fitting to write about The BFFs! Four years ago I began my teaching career. The job I took was nothing I had expected. In my mind I had "everything" mapped out the way I planned for it to go, the grade level I wanted, the school I wanted, etc. I always swore I would teach 3rd grade or below. Well, literally the week before school started, in desperation I took a 5th grade position at Landis Elementary. I'm not going to lie- this was not what I wanted!! I questioned what God was doing! God knew just what he was doing, he was blessing me with the greatest colleagues ever, the "BFFs". From the beginning the 4 of us, Mary, Melinda, Mary Beth and I, clicked. They took me under their wings and showed me the ropes. We NEVER, and have never, had an argument, disagreement, etc. We had something unique. I deviously nicknamed us the "BFFs" because we were a "click", not in a bad way though. Our grade level shared a bond that the others just didn't. Often times we would find ourselves laughing at other colleagues obliviousness to it. I only taught with them for one year. I made the hard decision to leave them to teach in my first choice school system when the opportunity presented itself. The only thing keeping me at Landis was the comraderie I shared with my teammates. I knew that I would never find such a team. These girls captured a part of my heart for sure. We did life together- not just work. Now, entering my 3rd year with out them, I am pleased to say we have remained the BFFs! We may not see each other day- but that's what phonecalls, facebook and blogs are for. Nothing makes me happier to know when we get together, no matter how much time has passed, we pick up right where we left off! Just last week we enjoyed a "back to school" lunch. Here's to the BFFs!!!
