Sunday's morning message was; "You are what you eat." It was a simple yet thought provoking message for me. Food is definetely a weakness for me, particularly sweets! I have (knock on wood) never had a problem with eating and never had a problem gaining wait from food- thanks to a good metabolism. I prided myself in college on not gaining the stereotypical "freshman 15". I know, I should enjoy it while it lasts. Sooner than later my metabolism will slow down and the pounds will add up. Ok, back to Sunday's message. It is a daily struggle for me to eat healthy!!! My sweet tooth does not help in this matter. I secretly wish I was more of a health nut like my sister-in-law Alison. I don't count calories and I don't scrutinize the health pyramid (not that Alison does either) Rather I tend to grab whatever food, healthy or not, is closest and easiest to consume; not thinking twice about it's effect on my health or body. Pastor Greg referred to sweets, spiritually speaking, as those things that aren't beneficial to your overall life- but "taste good". These sweets include, entertainment, activities that don't lead you closer but prevent you from moving closer to God. A sweet here and there may not be bad, but with all sweets; a little here and there adds up to a lot overtime. Instead of filling yourself full of these sweets, one should feast on Jesus, the bread of life and drink from his living over water. Over and over the Bible is full of parables related to food- which empasises God's message to his children- "you are what you eat."
