Snow 2010!!

We started the week out with flooding and ended the week with SNOW! Mid-week when we started getting reports of snow starting Friday night I was a little perturbed! We had bought tickets to take Weston and Ayden to the circus Friday night- I was not going to be a happy camper had we had to back out! Luckily the weather worked in our favor and we didn't have to cancel. Friday afternoon I left school right at 3:30 and headed to the store to buy a few last minute staples- SUNDROP being one of them. By the time I made it to Ashlyn's the snow was falling... we were determined to go. We got on the interstate and the traffic going into Charlotte was almost as bad as the 5 o'clock work traffic coming out. We got about half way to Charlotte and realized that traffic was delayed from the DPOT salting the roads. The whole way to Charlotte we were in snow. The circus was great. We had fantastic seats and it was great watching the boys' reactions. Personally the animals, elephants, tigers and dogs, were my favorite part.
We came out of the circus not knowing what to expect. I was very surprised to see that the snow was not sticking to to the grass. Driving home the further north we came the heavier the snow and the more it was sticking. Traffic also slowed as we moved north... you can definitely tell you're in the south when, anytime snow accumulates the drivers panic and drive like idiots. They followed me to my house because of the accumulation. Weston and I got out of the car and started throwing snow balls. Somehow I lost my phone in the midst of our fight. I tried unsuccessfully, along with mom and dad, to find the darn thing in the 6 inches of snow/ice. My phone was already on it's last leg. I stayed up until 2 am Saturday and woke up at 8. Tyler had to report in to work at 1. Alison and I rode with Dad to drop him off, planning to stop by the phone store on the way home. We grabbed a quick bite to eat at Varsity. After lunch we headed for the phone store- I was disheartened to see that it was closed for the inclement weather. A girl can only live for so long without her phone. Dad couldn't pass up a trip to Sam's. On the way home Dad dropped my by Ashlyn's...I couldn't stand not seeing my favorite boys playing in the snow. We went back to my house to grab my old red rider sled. Weston and I set out for our own adventure--- I had the ingenious idea to slick the runners with oil. Weston and I sled and sled for a good 2 hours before sucomming to near frost bite extremities. We were walking home when Lynn came to our rescue- good thing... Weston's fingers were about to fall off and my toes were about to fall off from the cold. We came in for a short time to defrost and play board games. We looked outside and saw that it was snowing again. Lynn, Weston, Emerald and I piled in the car and headed for the movie store. We picked out some good movies to get snowed in with. We came back by the house and picked up Ashlyn and Ayden and headed for village park for some great sledding! Here Emerald and I crammed in the back seat!

Talk about fun! We sled until we wore ourselves slap out. Here Ayden and I had mad a makeshift sled out of a plastic pool.

The hill in village park is so steep that you literally go air borne. After the park we dropped the sled by the house and I grabbed my pajamas and a change of clothes. We got home and Ashlyn fixed some delicious oyster stew- at 10 o'clock at night. We ate soup and watched The Proposal with Sandra Bullock in it. Emerald and I took over Weston's bed- I on the top she on the bottom. I closed my eyes at little after 2 and woke up around 7:30 to Ayden playing and singing Aunt Net's song. Emerald, Weston and I ventured across the highway to buy ingredients for breakfast. Ashlyn always comments on how clumsy her mom and I are- so of course she says, "JILL! be CAREFUL out there." My being devious- told Weston and Emerald "I'm going to lay down at the curb and Weston will run home panicking telling Ashlyn I'm hurt, Emerald you'll be the lookout." On our way back we executed my plan.. Emerald and Icould hear Weston from the curb. Ashlyn "Jill... if you're lying God's gonna strike you dead! You better get up!" Emerald and I laughed and laughed! Next thing we knew Ashlyn had sent Lynn out the door. I waited until he got up near me- then I shot up and said, "JUST KIDDING!" We walked home and I said, "It's a good thing I wasn't really hurt... at least I'd know who'd help me if I was in danger." We laughed. After breakfast and watching Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs Dad came and picked me up. We came home and I went sledding with Mom, Ty, Alison and Grady. We even put Grady on the sled with me. We came home and ate lunch. After lunch Dad and I went back to the phone store. I am now the proud new owner of n iPhone 3GS. I went over to Erin's house and we ate his dad's homemade chicken and noodles...YUM! After dinner we went sledding- we found a side street that was "slick as tar" making it perfect for sledding then I took him to village park. Village park was great- except that the heavy sledding traffic has worn the snow off the side of the hill, all but a few patches. Trying to outdo myself from last nigth I went flying down the hill- this time it didn't work so well. The second time down- I landed face forward on a patch of hard ice. I finished the night we a bruised and scraped high-cheek bone and scraped upper lip and chin....
My sledding is over for the time being! Tomorrow school is canceled! We'll be making it up on president's day! Dad said they're calling for a similar band of weather this coming weekend...

American Idol season 9...

So- I have to be honest... I haven't been watching the pre-season American Idol shows. Partly because I've been way too busy, and I don't like the judge change... any hoo.. I got on facebook this afternoon and had a group request for Jermaine Purifory.
Jermaine sang in the Voices of Lee, an elite acapella singing group, at my alma mater Lee University. Jermaine auditioned in 2007 for AI but was cut- he auditioned this year in Orlando
and was sent through with flying colors. He's pretty good if I do say so myself. See for yourself! Lee University is known for it's music. American Idol- season 6- runner up Phil Stacey. Just a few weeks back, the Voices of Lee, made it to the top 3 in NBS's acapella "Sing Off". Now that Jermaine's on this season- I might tune back in around Hollywood week time! Go Jermaine!

Movie Review

Extraordinary Measures...
Such a fantastic movie! For the past few weeks I've seen previews for this movie- each time I saw them, they made me want to see the movie all that much more. Sometimes previews can be diseving but this movie did not disappoint! The story line was very emoitionally stirring...not to mention Harrison Ford is pretty hot for an old guy! I would definately give it a 2 thumbs up, 4 stars!

Long Weekend

After school Friday I met up with Erin and Kendra for a quick bite at Macado's. After ingulfing our meal we headed to the theatre to watch Lovely Bones (the biggest waste of 2.5 hours and $10). Saturday morning I had an App class. After class I came home and crashed for about 2.5 hours. Saturday night Kendra and Joshua came over to play WII. Sunday was church. Monday I slept in. I was off on a mission to find a Burger King cupcake milkshake=heaven!!! I spent the afternoon running errands with Ashlyn and Ayden. My long weekend ended with the eventful arrival of my cousin, Tim's and Corey's little one, "Seth Martin" who is absolutely precious by the way! God is good all the time!:)

Left Handed!

This morning as I was getting ready and putting on my make-up I picked up my mascara with my right-hand and quickly changed it to my left-hand. Big whoopdie deal, you're right it isn't... however this made stop and analyze my ambidexteredness. I am a lefty! Only 7 - 10 % of the adult population is left-handed. My mom and I are both lefties. My Maw Maw Dancy was a lefty. We all three have nice handwriting. Dad and Tyler are right handed with horrible penmanship.

You are left handed if you prefer your left over your right hand in writing. As a rule left handers have very neat penmanship because of the natural slant in their writing. I tend to write quickly in cursive. Most left-handers show some degree of ambidexterity. Personally I write, eat (with utensils) and apply my makeup with my left hand. When I cut things with scissors(most scissors are designed to be used by the right hand), open drinks, play sports (shoot a basket, swing a bowling ball, swing a bat) I tend to use my right arm/hand. This might be due in part that the world as a whole, justifyably so, is more right hand oriented.

If the theory is true that the opposite sides of your brain control the opposite side of your body- then maybe its correct to say that I'm right brained? Along that note right brained people are generally visual learners- and I could definately attest to that.

This year I had a student ask me, "Ms Dancy... does it hurt to write with your left hand?" My response- "Does it hurt to write with your right hand?" I thought this was the funniest question. In my classroom, year after year, I've only had 1 or 2 at the most if any left handed students. This can sometimes be a challenge as I model writing for them.

Some famous left handers:
Ford, Reagan, the elder Bush, Clinton, Gore, and now Obama and McCain are all left-handed.
Benjamin Franklin
Henry Ford, automobile manufacturer
Helen Keller, advocate for the blind
Edwin Buzz Aldrin, astronaut
John F. Kennedy, Jr, lawyer/publisher
David Letterman (?), TV host
Jay Leno, TV host
Matt Groening cartoonist; 'Simpsons'
Tim Allen
Carol Burnett
George Burns, comedian
Charlie Chaplin
Tom Cruise
Robert DeNiro
Whoopi Goldberg
Jim Henson, puppeteer of Kermit the Frog
Angelina Jolie
Diane Keaton
Lisa Kudrow
Joey Lawrence
Chloris Leachman
Shirley MacLaine
Harpo Marx
Marilyn Monroe
Sarah Jessica Parker
Luke Perry

Are You Listening?

I always look at the beginning of the year as a fresh start at everything- I needed a fresh start at my relationship with the Lord. I've been so consumed with life and everything going on around me that I haven't been as atuned to the Lord as I should be. I go about my days, running in circles, just trying to keep up. I've thought about my focus for the year and still don't have a clear one and its the 11th day of January- no need to rush, the right one will come and I'll know it. Last night sitting in church listening to the heart of several of my church family members I was challenged with the question, "Are You Listening?" and the truth of the matter is NO! I'm not...at least not like I should. Too often I find myself going about my day with my spiritual ear buds half-in half-out.... meaning I'm not totally listening to the Lord. The cares of this world are muffling his voice. This morning I turned to Psalm 19 in my devotions, very fitting...

Psalm 19

For the director of music. A psalm of David.
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.

3 There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard. a]" style="font-size: 0.75em; line-height: 0.5em; ">[a]

4 Their voice b]" style="font-size: 0.75em; line-height: 0.5em; ">[b] goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

6 It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is hidden from its heat.

7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
and altogether righteous.

10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the comb.

11 By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.

13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then will I be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.

14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. (the invocation at every Lee Univ. chapel)

* I quickly sent this out as an email to several of my teacher friends. God confirmed his word in less than half an hour as 2 of them wrote back, "you knew just what I needed to hear this morning."

*This evening a friend said, "I never would have thought to do that, but God mus have encouraged you to tell me. Now I have..."

God is speaking all around me- I just have to listen. Sometimes he speaks in an audible voice, but more often he speaks in the things that happen around us. You just have to open your eyes/ears to recieve.

Happy Birthday Sadie Claire!!!

Has it really been 2 years since we sat anxiously in the waiting room awaiting this precious little girl's arrival. Sadie Claire is petite little thing- but makes up for it in intelligence and spunk let me tell you! She is honestly one of the smartest toddlers I have ever been around- and not just because her mama is a teacher. She just turned 2 and is practically potty trained- that's impressive let me tell ya! Saturday we celebrated Sadie's 2nd birthday at her house and oh what fun we had!

Mak a wish sweet girl!

I turned into the package opener! Why most these toy designers insist on making their packages not only child proof but adult proof?

Sadie loves to color and loved her Strawberry Shortcake coloring book and Pinkalicous sticker book I gave her.

Thanks Mary! This one's for you! yes! I know it's January and 10 months away from Halloween- my sock supply was running low!

So You Would Know

This morning tears of joy and worship flowed as we sang "So You Would Know" at church. This song has always moved me- but today was different. You see this week, God proved himself mighty to me. Three miracles- happened in my life:

Tuesday- Tyler and Alison's house caught on fire through bad electrical wiring in the ceiling. God saw fit to spare not only their lives, but their precious irreplaceable wordly possesions and only minimal damage was done to their home.

Friday- Anna Beth crawled for the first time. It is a big deal because she will celebrate her 2nd birthday in 2 weeks. Last may she was given a devasting life sentence. Futher evaluations were that this would not be a terminal disease- she would just have some developmental delays. Through lots of physical therapy, love & support and most importantly prayer she is FINALLY showing progress.

Saturday- Ayden walked! Undergoing major foot reconstruction and a painful recovery process he has finally turned the corner!

"So You Would Know"
VERSE
How many times must I prove how much I love you
How many ways must my love for you I show
How many times must I rescue you from trouble
For you to know just how much I love you

CHORUS
Didn't I wake you up this morning
Were you clothed in your right mind
When you walked on this problem
Didn't I step right in on time
When you got weak along life's journey
My angel carried you
So you would know just how much I love you

VERSE 2
How many days must I be fence all around you
How many nights must I wipe your tears away
How many storms must I bring you safely through
For you to know just how much I love you

REPEAT CHORUS

CHORUS 2
Didn't I put food on your able
Show UP! when your bills were due
When the pains were racking your badoy
Didn't I send a healing down to you
When you were lost in sin and sorrow
I died to set you free
So you would know just how much I love you

REPEAT CHORUS 2

So you would know, so you would know how much
So you would know, so you would know how much
So you would know just how much I love you

How has God shown you just how much he loves you?

Love me some Selah!

So I posted a while back on the new Selah cd... let me tell you... it has really ministed to me! The cd is great... Here are my top three that I constantly find myself hitting replay to in the car!

1. Redeemed
The cruelest world
The coldest heart
The deepest wound
The endless dark
The lonely ache
The burning tears
The bitter nights
The wasted years

Life breaks and falls apart
But we know these are
Places where grace is soon to be so amazing
It may be unfulfilled
It may be unrestored
But when anything that's shattered is laid before the Lord
Just watch and see
It will not be unredeemed

For every choice that led to shame
And all the love that never came
For every vow that someone broke
And every lie that gave up hope
We live in the shadow of the fall
But the cross says these are all
Places where grace is soon to be so amazing
It may be unfulfilled
It may be unrestored
But when anything that's shattered is laid before the Lord
Just watch and see
It will not be unredeemed

Places where grace is soon to be so amazing
It may be unfulfilled
It may be unrestored
But you never know the miracle the Father has in store
Just watch and see
It will not be
Just watch and see
It will not be unredeemed
-this song beautifully describes the heart of salvation

2. You Deliver Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D86IpkYDjOo
-this song totally captures my heart anytime I feel overwhelmed or burdened

3. Carry You - this song really ministered to me when Justin and Elizabeth lost their first born at almost full term

TV Classics I grew up on '90s style!

It would appear that I was a childhood t.v. junkie... I promise I wasn't! These tv shows were all watched at some point, just not at the same time! What '80s/'90s childhood would have been complete without them?

Ironically, one of my college roomates, Allison Cauble, was the niece of Blair played by Lisa Welchel-Cauble

Tyler and I watched D.T. religously in the mornings at Aunt Bev's

This was a Sunday night classic that we watched after church

This was one of mom's favorites that we watched Saturday nights

Wheel of Fortune was on every night at 7 pm in Maw Maw's den

90210- my first soap opera... haha

My brother was obsessed with the Simpsons- I seem to remember we had to sneak and watch this

This was a Sunday morning classic that we watched before church

I used to think "Mama" looked like my Maw Maw Dancy

This was another classic we watch in the afternoons at Aunt Bev's eating nacho chips and drinking Cherry Lemon Sundrop
Morning lineup at Aunt Bev's

I had a brother... need I say more..

We watched DINOSAURS with Harry and the Hendersons on Sunday mornings
Another classic we watched at Aunt Bev's
TGIF anyone?
We were not allowed to watch M.W.C or Roseanne- but we sure did try to sneak them in anyways!

My all time favorite...
