The Time Traveler's Wife

At the beginning of the summer I went to see the movie The Proposal. One of the previews caught my attention- "The Time Traveler's Wife". Knowing that it was based on a book- I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I had to read it before the movie premeired August 14th. In anticipation of my beach trip I waited to read the book- good book & laying on the beach are synonomous. It took me a little while to "get into" the book- as the main character was constantly time traveling. The more I read though, the harder it was to put the book down. I ended the book wanting more... I didn't want it to be over... making my movie anticipation even greater. You bet I was in line- to see the movie on opening night. The movie was good- but I left thinking the stereotypical- "the book was better than the movie". Don't get me wrong- the movie itself was good, its just that it left out so much of the book. Books allow you to create a picture in your own mind.

BFFS!

At the start of a new school year it is fitting to write about The BFFs! Four years ago I began my teaching career. The job I took was nothing I had expected. In my mind I had "everything" mapped out the way I planned for it to go, the grade level I wanted, the school I wanted, etc. I always swore I would teach 3rd grade or below. Well, literally the week before school started, in desperation I took a 5th grade position at Landis Elementary. I'm not going to lie- this was not what I wanted!! I questioned what God was doing! God knew just what he was doing, he was blessing me with the greatest colleagues ever, the "BFFs". From the beginning the 4 of us, Mary, Melinda, Mary Beth and I, clicked. They took me under their wings and showed me the ropes. We NEVER, and have never, had an argument, disagreement, etc. We had something unique. I deviously nicknamed us the "BFFs" because we were a "click", not in a bad way though. Our grade level shared a bond that the others just didn't. Often times we would find ourselves laughing at other colleagues obliviousness to it. I only taught with them for one year. I made the hard decision to leave them to teach in my first choice school system when the opportunity presented itself. The only thing keeping me at Landis was the comraderie I shared with my teammates. I knew that I would never find such a team. These girls captured a part of my heart for sure. We did life together- not just work. Now, entering my 3rd year with out them, I am pleased to say we have remained the BFFs! We may not see each other day- but that's what phonecalls, facebook and blogs are for. Nothing makes me happier to know when we get together, no matter how much time has passed, we pick up right where we left off! Just last week we enjoyed a "back to school" lunch. Here's to the BFFs!!!

Inspiration

Yesterday I saw Julie and Julia. The movie itself was ok- it was a little over 2 hours long and seemed to drag on and on. The movie is based on the real life story of chef Julia Child and an obsessed follower Julie Powell. Jule sets out to cook her way through a 500+ recipe cookbook all with in a year. She blogs about her cooking experiences. Her dedication to the project left me inspired to be a more dedicated blogger... we shall see!

Friends for Life!

Mom was right when she said, "You'll meet your life long friends in college". I wouldn't trade the friendships I made at Lee University for anything in the world! The friendships I made there have turned out to be like no other. I love the reassuring fact that- no matter how much times passes between our visits, we always pick up right where we left off. Last week I had the fortune of spending a long weekend at the beach with my Senior Year roomates. We hadn't all been together in over a year, so it was fitting that upon Meredith's return to the states we would get together. Meredith has been in Korea for a year teaching English. She was dying for a trip to Myrtle Beach so that's what we arranged- little did she know I had a invited some other friends! Missy and Kim drove twice the distance we did- to surprise Meredith! Kim from NJ and Missy from MD- I think they would say the fun we had was worth the long drive! Our weekend was filled with shopping, riding the Banana Boat, lounging on the beach, the Dixie Stampede, card playing and lots of remincing!
